There's mounting, but circumstantial, evidence that it is. Or is it just clever engine management software?

Take a look

Of course it has traction control. Like team orders, it never goes away regardless of the rules.

That said, the videos you link to might as well have been entitled 'what an F1 car sounds like when the driver lets the revs drop a bit too far'.

Needless to say this has picked up some echoes around the internet, as everyone looks for reasons for Vettel’s dominance. While there does seem to be some work being undertaken in engine mapping to work around the ban on exhaust blowing, which may have contributed to the strange sound, the issue of traction control is broadly taken care of by the common Electronic Control Unit, which is manufactured for the FIA by McLaren Electronics. Because the unit is specified and the same for every team, it is hard to conceal a traction control command in what is essentially a spec part.

Rather than traction control, some kind of mapping to blow into the exhaust within the rules is more likely and this all fits with the corner exit work that Red Bull has been carrying out.

I assume that McLaren Electronics are a competent bunch, and they make the FIA sanctioned ECU in such a way that engine adjustment triggered by wheelspin is simply not possible.

So that leaves clever engine mapping, which will reduce the available power at certain RPM, throttleposition and gear. But that will happen any time those conditions are met, wheels gripping or spinning.

I agree, just clever mapping that could leave them at a disadvantage in certain situations.

I proposed the same idea when everyone was accusing Ferrari of using traction control when it was first banned. People will always find an excuse why their team is failing or how the top team is conspiring to circumvent the rules. Has it happened before? FOR SURE! Is cheating the reason for every teams success? HELL NO! In competition there are winners and losers, people need to remember that.

Given the "meh" starts he has had? No. Now the "magical" starts both Ferrari drivers get ?

And Bernie being in the bag for Ferrari.

So: Is Alonso's car running traction control? And has F1 scrutineers been instructed not to look to closely at their cars?

Yup: the RB9 is fitted with a 1987 model year traction control with optional Beyonce hair mapping...
